- For children, toys are their words and play is their language which means that it can feel safer to explore their experiences through play at their own pace.
- Play therapy sessions are confidential and pupils establish a trusting therapeutic relationship that enables them to express themselves and make sense of the difficulties they experience in a non-judgemental space.
- Play Therapy sessions are held in the same dedicated therapy space each week with the agreement that sessions are never interrupted.
- Pupils are permitted to do what they choose (drawing, painting, water, clay, sand and miniatures etc) with minimal direction although there are clear boundaries.
- Progress is reviewed regularly and therapy can be extended if necessary. Work is kept in a private box which pupils take when the therapy process ends.
